The 2011 Lowman Award winner is John Pumphrey.
To be eligible to win the Lowman Award, a player must have participated in at least 50% of the tournaments from the December Ham Shoot through the November Turkey Shoot. With the advent of the perpetual Lowman Trophy it was decided it would be awarded to the
Player of the Year
at the end of each tournament cycle based on participation, the conduct of player, and the spirit with which that individual plays the game. Unlike many sports, golf is played (for the most part) without the supervision of a referee or umpire. The game relies on the integrity and honesty of the individual to show consideration for other players and to abide by the Rules of Golf.
Courtesy, sportsmanship, and discipline all combine to form what is the “Spirit of the game of Golf”, irrespective of the competitive nature of the player. The Player of the Year will be selected from those members who have participated in the most events and exhibit these traits at all times. Mr. Lowman and the La Contenta Men's Club Board will select a player at the end of each year to receive the Award based on all of the above criteria. Along with the participation requirement, nominations are also heartily encouraged from the general membership for this prestigious Award.
