2014 Lowman Award goes to Bob Gibbs.

The qualifications for the “Lowman” are; Good character, honesty, generosity, and most especially altruism coupled with an unselfish interest in your community and in sharing the enjoyment of the game of golf as it is intended to be played.

When you have these qualities then you will also have the tools to share and to be considered in the future for this most prestigious award.

Over the last six years Bob Gibbs has unselfishly donated his time and effort each month in a manner that demonstrates his deep commitment to our golfing community. He shares his experience on what works and what has not worked over his years with the boards of both the Men’s Club and the Senior’s Club, thus we have avoided reliving negative aspects of history. Bob has been the sole choreographer of all of the sixteen Men’s Clubs events each year.  During his tenure as Tournament Director we have enjoyed relatively conflict free pairings, excellent participation and consistency of play. Bob insists that he looks forward to each event.

Bob and his twin brother were born in Paducah, Texas some 77 years ago.  He was welcomed into a loving Southern Baptist family where he developed his value system. Bob, father to 4 children (three boys and a girl), shares 47 years of marriage with his wife Betty (everyone loves Betty).  Bob drove trucks 26 years for the National Can Company and eventually retired after nine more years as a driver for Safeway.  Eighteen years ago Bob came to Valley Springs for a golf event, liked the area (a lot) and settled into his current home.  Bob has provided unfettered assistance to his church and social communities.

We celebrate that the name Bob Gibbs is being added to the Lowman award and appreciate his contributions to our general community and especially the stabilizing effect his leadership has had on the Men’s Club membership and the level of play.
